Bro people coming up to you in public to tell you how good looking you are is absoulte bs. I mean think about it. If you saw a beautiful woman walking down the street would you just go up to her and say "you're really hot". It takes a ton of nerve to do that and not everyone has that. The second part is a bit tricky. If you're really good looking you'll often get stared at by people, but it's usually more subtly and when you aren't looking. This is for people to avoid coming off as creepy. There are some who have no problem openly staring at you when you're looking but those aren't the norm.

But to answer your question yes. The first part is more rare but I had a random girl in class once say to me "you're so cute" and there was also a random girl I heard say to her friend when she walked by "that is a hot guy". I've also been told Im cute by a few gay guys and multiple straight men have told me things like "you must get a lot of girls". I do notice people looking at me a lot in public, but its really easy to miss if I'm not paying attention. If I notice them looking, theyll usually quickly look away. In high school tho a ton of girls would openly stare at me when I could see them. I think this is much more commonground than other places such as the store, mabye because they go to school with you and so they're noticeably trying to get your attention so they have a chance at going out with you.
